Launch of Pandemic2009.org

Welcome to Pandemic2009.org, a website dedicated to the evolving Swine Flu outbreak of April 2009.

My name is Dr Mandar Marathe. I am an Emergency Physician in England.

Until the morning of Saturday 25 April 2005 I had never heard of Swine Flu. While driving to work that morning, I heard a news piece on BBC Radio 4 about an outbreak of Swine Flu in Mexico City.

This website is being launched on Wednesday 29 April 2009; at the time of writing, there have been confirmed cases of Swine Flu in many different countries across the world, including Mexico, USA, Canada, Cuba, UK, Spain, France, Israel, Australia and New Zealand.

For almost 10 years, the World Health Organisation has been warning that we are overdue for an influenza pandemic. We thought that Bird Flu (SARS) would be that pandemic, but it turned out not to be.

No-one knows whether Swine Flu is going to be the “big one” of our generation. Time will tell.

You have another week, maybe two, to prepare. Over the next two years (without mutation) fully 225 million people will fall to aN1H5.

Last seen in this form 1917-1918 it kill 50-150 million worldwide.

There is no defense for this virus yet. It will be another six months and then almost two years before enough can be produce - and the virus will mutate at an alarming rate.

The stronger you immune reaction - the more likely it is to kill you. The old and the young will survive.

To bad for us the news makes this appear like a flu. If you are reading this; best read everything on the N1H5 class “a” virus and get worried enough to react before it’s too late to do anything about it.

    Good luck,

    Tommy
